It’s common to have difficulty maintaining your confidence and self-esteem as you age. Even if you still feel vibrant and youthful, you will develop wrinkles, fine lines, and other imperfections that can make you look tired, sad, or angry. At MD Beauty Labs in West Palm Beach, Florida, we can use Botox and Xeomin to smooth your wrinkles and renew your skin. Read on to learn how these products can help you look as young as you feel.

What Are the Differences Between Botox and Xeomin?

Botox and Xeomin are FDA-approved injectable treatments that are used to create temporary improvements in the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, and other wrinkles. Since these products affect the behavior of the nerves in your target area, they are sometimes called neuromodulators. Although these neuromodulators use a similar process to smooth your wrinkles, there are some important differences between these products.

Botox

Botox is one of the oldest, most widely used injectable products in the world. Botox is very effective and safe. In fact, people have been using this treatment to reduce wrinkles since the FDA approved this product for the purpose of treating frown lines in 2002.

This injectable product contains botulinum toxin and a number of additives. Botox uses botulinum toxin to stop your nerves from telling your muscles to make the movements that create facial wrinkles.

Once we administer this substance into your treatment area, the botulinum toxin in the product will stop your nerves from releasing a neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine. Preventing your nerves from releasing this neurotransmitter will relax your muscles and smooth your skin.

Xeomin

This product also uses botulinum toxin to smooth your facial wrinkles. Like Botox, this treatment is a safe, reliable wrinkle reduction method. In fact, people have been using this treatment to reduce their wrinkles for many years.

Although this treatment is very similar to Botox, it uses a unique formulation to improve your wrinkles. Because this product does not contain additives, it is sometimes called a naked injectable. As a result, it does not need to be refrigerated.

Which Injectable Treatment Should I Use to Improve My Wrinkles?

Since these treatments are very similar, you might have difficulty choosing between them. Fortunately, we will help you make this important decision. Before we administer your injections, Dr. Daniela Dadurian will examine your wrinkles.

She will also discuss your overall health and medical history. You will have a chance to tell her about the improvements that you would like to see in your wrinkles. In addition, you should tell her how your body responded to any injectable treatments that you’ve received in the past.

Selecting a Treatment

Dr. Dadurian will use this information to choose a suitable injectable product for you. Since these products use unique formulas to reduce your wrinkles, your body may respond differently to each treatment. For instance, if you did not see dramatic changes in your wrinkles after you used one injectable product, Dr. Dadurian might advise you to try a different neuromodulator.

Addressing Tolerance Issues

Normally, these products will be effective over a very long period of time. However, under some circumstances, you might develop a resistance to Botox after a long period of use. If your Botox injections have become less effective over time, Dr. Dadurian may advise you to switch to a new injectable product.

Since Xeomin does not contain additives, your body may have a stronger response to this treatment. As a result, you might achieve more significant improvements in your wrinkles if you switch to this injectable product.

How Do Crow’s Feet and Other Wrinkles Develop?

Crow’s feet are created by repeated facial movements. Every day, you squint, smile, frown, and make many other facial expressions. Each time that you make an expression, the skin on your face will move. For instance, when you squint, the skin around the corners of your eyes will crease.

When you are young, your skin contains high amounts of elastin and collagen. These proteins strengthen the structure of your skin and help it stay flexible and firm. As you age, your body will begin to make fewer of these proteins. As your elastin and collagen levels decrease, your skin will become weaker.

Your weakened skin will have difficulty recovering from the creases and movements caused by your most frequent expressions. As a result, your most common expressions will etch lines and wrinkles onto your skin. For example, if you frequently raise your eyebrows, you will develop horizontal lines on your forehead. Although these wrinkles are a normal part of life, they can make you look old, angry, or tired.

What Types of Wrinkles Can These Injectable Products Improve?

These products can minimize many different types of wrinkles. For example, we can use these neuromodulators to reduce frown lines and lines that run across your forehead. Further, these products can improve the appearance of horizontal lines, which are also known as platysmal bands, around your neck. These products can also treat crow’s feet around the corners of your eyes.

Will I Feel Uncomfortable During the Injection Process?

Since the injection process is very easy, you should feel relaxed as you prepare to receive your chosen neuromodulator. We will begin your treatment by applying a topical anesthetic to the skin in your target area. This anesthetic will numb your skin and make the injection process feel more comfortable.

After we have prepared your skin, we will inject your chosen product into your target area. This process is very quick, and it usually only takes us a couple of minutes to complete your treatment. Once your injections are finished, you will be able to immediately return to your usual routine.

When Will I See Improvements in My Wrinkles?

Since it takes your nerves and muscles a little time to respond to these products, you shouldn’t expect to see instant improvements in your wrinkles. That said, these products usually work very quickly. If you used Botox, you are likely to notice positive changes in your skin in about three to ten days. If you used Xeomin, you will probably see improvements within a week.

How Long Will These Products Last?

These products do not create permanent changes in your appearance. The exact duration of your results will depend on many different factors, including how quickly your body processes your chosen injectable, the types of wrinkles that you are targeting, and the amount of the product that we injected into your treatment area. For instance, if you are an active person with a quick metabolism, your results may last for a shorter period of time.

In general, however, your improvements are likely to last for a couple of months. After this point, you can maintain your wrinkle-free skin by getting follow-up injections. Receiving repeated injections will train your muscles to stop making the facial expressions that cause you to develop lines and wrinkles. As a result, your treatments are likely to become more effective over time.

Can I Use Other Injectables to Improve My Appearance?

At MD Beauty Labs, we have an extensive range of dermal fillers, neuromodulators, and other injectable treatments. These products can plump your skin and minimize your wrinkles.

Neuromodulators

In addition to the products described above, we offer several other neuromodulators at MD Beauty Labs. For example, Jeuveau is a wrinkle reduction treatment that the FDA approved in 2019. This product uses a unique strain of botulinum toxin to minimize your wrinkles. To protect your safety, this product is manufactured using sophisticated Hi-Pure technology.

We can also smooth your wrinkles with Dysport. If you want to see quick changes in your appearance, you are likely to achieve favorable results with this treatment. This is our fastest-acting neuromodulator, and you will probably see positive changes in your face within one to three days.

Fillers

Fillers are injectable products that are used to fill in wrinkles and add volume to specific areas of your face. For instance, we frequently use fillers to fill in wrinkles around your nose and mouth, also known as nasolabial folds. Our range of fillers can also be used to restore volume to your cheeks and increase the size of your lips.

Many of our fillers use a substance called hyaluronic acid to enhance your skin. This gentle sugar can rejuvenate your appearance by adding volume to your target area. For instance, Juvederm Volbella is a hyaluronic acid-based filler that can be used to plump your lips.

When Should I Begin Using These Treatments?

There’s no specific age when you need to start using these products. Instead, it’s a good idea to begin using neuromodulators when your crow’s feet, forehead lines, or other wrinkles begin to bother you. If you are a very expressive person, you might develop these types of dynamic wrinkles in your twenties. Treating these wrinkles at an early stage will prevent them from turning into deeper lines that are more difficult to minimize.

Can Neuromodulators Be Used to Treat Excessive Sweating?

It’s normal to sweat when you engage in rigorous physical exercise or when you are in a very hot environment. If you suffer from excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, you are likely to sweat in cold temperatures. You may also sweat when you are not exercising. This condition can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed.

Fortunately, neuromodulators can be used to minimize this issue. For instance, the FDA has approved Botox for the purpose of treating hyperhidrosis. During your treatment, we will inject this product into your target area. The botulinum toxin in the product will stop the nerves in this location from telling your sweat glands to activate. This process can reduce excessive sweating under your arms and in your palms.

Who Is Eligible to Use These Injectable Products?

Rigorous scientific studies have demonstrated that all of our neuromodulators are safe and effective. As a result, you will probably be eligible for these injectable products. That said, these products are not designed for everyone, and some health issues will prevent you from using these wrinkle relaxers.

In particular, you cannot use any of our neuromodulators if you have an allergy to botulinum toxin or if you’ve had an allergic reaction to another botulinum toxin-based product in the past. Further, certain muscle or nerve conditions, like ALS or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, can prevent you from using these products. In addition, you cannot receive your injections while you have an active infection in your target area.
