What Is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is a filler made from a calcium derivative, calcium hydroxylapetite, and is used to immediately fill in folds and wrinkles on the face. What is unique about Radiesse® is that it not only provides correction and immediate volume repletion, but it also stimulates the skin to promote it’s own collagen production.
With time the filler is metabolized by the body and only your own collagen is left behind. What this means is that when the filler wears off, you still have more correction then when you first started before the filler.
This fact is very comforting, as many patients’ concern is that they may look worse once the filler wears off.
Radiesse® lasts for up to a year and is injected into the skin through a fine needle.
The most common areas that are injected with Radiesse® are the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Although Radiesse® is a very smooth material, it is also very sturdy which makes it a great filler for rebuilding volume in the cheeks and hands where a thick filler is essential for providing the necessary support to lift the tissue.
The most common side effects are bruising and swelling as with all fillers, and if it happens it usually resolves within a few days.
